Downtown Memphis Day: Overton Park 10k

We started the day with my last race for a while, the Overton Park 10k.  I missed it last year due to my ankle injury, and I really wanted to run it with my Misfits teammates.  It's entirely on the trails in Overton Park, some of which are only open for this race, and the proceeds go towards maintaining the park.  It was a beautiful day for a run, and I felt great running through the trails and woods!  I ended up placing 3rd in my age group (not bad for 26 weeks pregnant), along with Charlene and Cat (in the age group younger than me).  We took home the traditional Overton Park gnome prizes!  During the race, the boys got to see me in lots of different spots!  After the race, we met the Ayottes and played at the Rainbow Lake playground for a while, then we enjoyed a delicious lunch and more outside playtime at Belly Acres in Overton Square.  Perfect downtown Memphis morning!

Connor's 100th Day of School!

Today was Connor's 100th day of 1st grade!  He is definitely 100 days smarter :)  His handwriting has really improved; he loves to read (and take AR tests for points); he loves math and thinks fractions are "easy;" and he truly pours all of his energy into everyday at school.  We are most proud of the fact that he's had excellent behavior every day, which was a personal goal he set at the beginning of the year.  Keep up the great work, Connor!!

All ready for school, dressed as a 100-year-old man!

Pinewood Derby

Today was Cub Scout Pinewood Derby day!  Connor and Chris had worked very hard on his car, and Connor was very excited to race it!  Each car competed in three heats and was awarded prizes based upon its fastest time out of the three heats.  Connor's car did great - he finished second in each heat but got faster with each heat as well!  He finished 4th in the Tiger Cubs, and he was so proud of himself.  We had such a fun morning watching the boys race and visiting with the other scout parents. We are so glad Connor has been a part of Cub Scouts this year!

Proud of his car!
So glad Grammy was here to cheer!
All of the cars lined up for judging.

Snow Day!

The boys were off school and the base was closed today due to a wintery mix of snow and ice! Thankfully Grammy made it into town last night before the Baltimore area got over 25 inches of snow!  The boys went outside and played for a while early in the morning, then we spent the afternoon taking naps and building Lego projects!  It was the perfect Friday snow day!

Early January Randoms

Some random photos from the first part of this month...
We had to say "see you later" to the Jaquith family on January 7th.  We will miss them terribly, but we know that the Navy will help our paths cross again in the future!  Safe travels and enjoy your time in Newport, Brent, Stacie, Quinn, Evan, and Reese!
Tigers project day at Mr. Seth's house!  The boys built really neat birrdhouses!
Finished product.
The boys have been sleeping together in Connor's bed recently.
Working on Connor's Pinewood Derby car for Scouts.  Two boys, their dad, and a Dremel tool...perfection!
